Our two passages for today indicate how the truth is something that fuels our joy in Jesus. Paul tells us that love rejoices in the truth, and John rejoices to see his friends walking in the truth. Truth brings us joy because we live in a world that is ever-changing. So few things seem certain. This causes our every happiness to be tinged with a bit of grief because we know that it can’t last. Sunshine turns to rain. Spring turns to winter. Happiness turns to grief. But God never changes. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. A child of God can go to sleep each night knowing, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that God will still care just as much for her tomorrow. This is what it means for love to rejoice in unchanging truth. The weather, the seasons and my feeling may change from moment to moment, but the truth of God never changes. That is something the rejoice about.
