Paul was having a difficult time in his life. He says that he was surrounded by afflictions and internally he was experiencing fear. (v. 5). This doesn't paint a promising picture for joy to present itself. But then along comes Titus! What Titus tells Paul fills him with joy. What was it? Titus told him that the members of the church in Corinth loved him and that they were following Jesus with all they had. God was working in the lives of brothers and sisters in the faith. That was a reason to rejoice. The principle here is that when Christian joy is shared it doesn't divide, it multiplies. Maybe you need to be a Titus to someone today, because we aren't just walking in faithfulness for ourselves. We are walking to give some discouraged hearts around us a reason to rejoice.
