Sometimes we are so fascinated by the miraculous parts of Scripture that we overlook the incredible ways that God uses more everyday means to accomplish His plans. Paul was preaching in the large city of Corinth and was experiencing significant pushback from his audiences. God didn’t want him to be discouraged, so He appeared to Paul in a night vision and assured him that he should keep on preaching to the people of Corinth. If you look closely, however, you will see that God had already been working to support and encourage Paul in his missionary work. He did it by surrounding him with supportive and encouraging people. He provided Aquila and Priscilla who helped him to find work to support himself financially. He provided Silas and Timothy who were able to take some of the logistical planning off of Paul, so that he could dedicate himself more completely to the work of evangelism. He provided Titius Justus who supplied Paul with a place to live for over a year. He also provided the household of Crispus who formed the very beginning of the new church in Corinth and who encouraged him that his labors were not in vain. God has always called His people to work as a family. He doesn’t want us to lose heart as we work for Him and He is always putting brothers and sisters around us to help us run for the prize.
