How The Gospel Story Connects To My Story – Day 25 – Ephesians 6.14-17

We saw yesterday that just as we must dress our bodies appropriately for the weather, so we must also dress our spirits appropriately for warfare.  These verses go into some detail about how to “dress for the weather” spiritually speaking.  God doesn’t want us to take unnecessary wounds, but His strategy isn’t to put us in safe places but rather to equip us to hold our ground.  If you are like me, then you have wasted a lot of time asking the Lord to take you out of a place of spiritual struggle.  You keep thinking that there must be an easier post in the Christian army.  There must be a spiritual retirement from the duty to hold your ground.   Sometimes we are begging God to withdraw us from the fight while He is busy equipping us to withstand through the fight.  This doesn’t mean that we must continue in every difficult circumstance in our lives, but it does mean that our focus needs to be on standing equipped rather than seeking an exit.  It may be a relief to be withdrawn from a battle, but it is so much more satisfying to stand firm and win victories.  How many flaming arrows of doubt have we allowed Satan to wound us with because we simply ignored God’s instructions to lift the shield of faith?  How many potential victories over darkness have we lost because we didn’t have our gospel running shoes on?  Father, help us to stay in the fight by putting on every piece of equipment that You have given us.  Help us to stand firm and see spiritual victories.
