How The Gospel Story Connects To My Story – Day 24 – Ephesians 6.10-13

“We don’t wrestle against flesh and blood.” (v. 12)  There is more to your struggles than you realize.  We have spent several days listening to God’s advice for our marital, family, and work relationships.  That seems to be a straight forward matter of “flesh and blood” people just trying to get along.  Sometimes we honestly don’t know what to do in a given situation, but many times (probably more times than we would like to admit) we do know what we should do; we just struggle to do it.  We say, “My anger got the best of me”, or “I just couldn’t take it anymore.”  We stand in the wreckage of another missed opportunity or fruitless battle and wonder why we can’t seem to do any better.  It may be that we are simply focused on fighting the wrong people.  Christian, there is a devil.  There is a spiritual world full of rulers, authorities and cosmic powers that hates you because of who you are in Christ.  There is more to you than what the eye can see.  You have a soul that is in constant battle with the spiritual forces of evil. That means we must dress our souls for battle and get ready for the fight.  We ignore this reality to our sorrow.  We are often like people who walk out into a thunderstorm without a coat or umbrella and wonder why it is that we keep getting soaked.  Just as you have to dress for the physical weather, so you have to dress for the spiritual warfare.  That way we will, “be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.” (v. 13)
