When God saves us, He gives us a new nature or a “new self”. Following Jesus means that we consciously “put on” that new person each day. We say, “I want to think and act more like the person God saved me to be and less like the person God saved me from.” If that is our commitment then verse 25 says, “therefore”! Since this is the kind of person you are and the kind of life you are living then here are some things to work through: truth-telling, anger, working hard, generosity, wholesome talking, bitterness, and forgiveness. These verses can function like a diagnostic for our lives. Let the Holy Spirit use them to encourage, convict and advise you. After all He is the One who has “sealed us for the day of redemption.” (v. 30) Let Him show you what He wants you to put on today. Let Him encourage you by reminding you of ways that you once struggled, but now you have put them off. Lord, help us to hear You and heed You as you show us what we need to put off and put on for your Son.
