As we read about God's people returning home and trying to rebuild after they have been in exile over 70 years, it is important to see that God is undoing some of the bad things that have befallen His people. It is also important to note that these bad things came about as a result of their disobedience. The work of restoration after failure is one that God continues to carry out in our lives today. Thank God. When we read about Cyrus issuing a decree that people can return to Jerusalem and the temple can be rebuilt, it can seem far from us. But is there no work or chapter of your life that you wish you could return to? Think about the mess that you made in a particular area that you would love to hear a "decree from Cyrus" saying, "You can go back and start that over. The slate is clean." Over these next three weeks it will probably help for personal application to see this episode in the life of Israel through that lens. Thank God that He is a rebuilding God.
